We will also look at some of the ingredients used in bath bombs, and how they can benefit your skin. So, do bath bombs clean you? Keep reading to find out!
Will a bath bomb clean you?
Bath bombs are well known for using natural ingredients such as essential oils and rich nourishing butter such as Shea. However, they do usually not contain any traces of what we could call a soap, so if that’s the case do they clean you?
Well, the truth is that bath bombs release lots of emollients and softeners into your bath water which help to cleanse your skin. Then the essential oils themselves add extra and natural cleansing power.
But, if you’re looking for a more traditional ‘soap’ type cleanse then you might be disappointed as bath bombs don’t contain any of those ingredients. Instead, they clean you in a much more natural way which is better for your skin.
As well as cleansing your skin, bath bombs have so many other benefits over washing with plain old soap.
Natural essential oils.
Most bath bombs contain a blend of different essential oils which are well known to have many benefits for the skin. You see your skin works a little bit like a sponge and soaks up the natural essential oils. There are so many different essential oils out there and each has its own benefit
For example, Lavender oil is a very popular choice as it’s known to be very calming and relaxing.
Other oils such as Eucalyptus or Peppermint oil can have a more refreshing effect and are often used in bath bombs intended to help you feel more awake. But, there are many other essential oils to choose from each with its own unique benefits.
Nourishing butter and oils.
Another key ingredient in bath bombs is the nourishing butter and oils which help to leave your skin feeling soft, smooth, and hydrated. Popular choices include Shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, or even sweet almond oil, all of which have been used for centuries to nourish, moisturize, and protect the skin.
Do you need to use soap after a bath bomb?
So you have had a nice long soak in the bath and have used your favorite bath bomb, should you now use some soap or even a shower gel to get a wash?
Well of course it is up to you and depends on how clean you already feel after your bath bomb. However, by using a soap or shower gel you will find that this breaks down the oils and butter that will have coated your skin.
This leads back to the above about how these oils nourish and protect your skin. Washing them off with soap will remove them and stop them from doing their job.
Personally, I prefer to not wash off with soap after using a bath bomb.
Do you need to shower after using a bath bomb?
No, you don’t need to shower after using a bath bomb. In fact, it is often not recommended as this can strip away the natural oils and butter from your skin.
The only time that you may need to shower after a bath bomb is if you have used one that uses far too much glitter or essential and carrier oils. The reasons for this are that if there was too much oil it can leave you feeling a little bit greasy and if that is the case you may want to shower a little of it off.
Do bath bombs clean your hair?
Much like they cleanse your skin, bath bombs do a great job of cleansing your hair as well. The extra added benefits are all of the nourishing oils that are in the bath bombs. Shea butter and coconut oils will leave your hair feeling healthy and also silky to the touch.
Depending on which bath bombs you choose though some may leave your hair feeling a little greasy. If this is the case you can follow the advice above and have a little shower off to remove the excess oils.
How to use a bath bomb to clean you.
If you want to get a lovely aromatic, relaxing, and cleansing bath then this is how you should use a bath bomb.
- Run the hot and cold water taps until your bath has reached the desired level and water temperature.
- If your bath bomb has a plastic wrapper remove the plastic from the bath bomb.

- Get into your bath, close your eyes and truly unwind
- After you have finished relaxing you can now use a sponge or flannel to clean yourself using the bath bomb water which contains all of the oils and butter.
Final thoughts.
Using a bath bomb is a real luxury that not only relaxes you and allows you to escape the daily grind but also cleanses your skin and hair.
The added benefit of using a bath bomb over just having a normal bath is the nourishing oils and butter that are in the bath bomb.
So, next time you are feeling stressed or need to unwind, why not have a long soak in the tub with your favorite bath bomb and let all of your troubles float away.
